PIRAKUMA YAWALAPITI – XINGU SPOKESPERSON – ABOUT CARBON TRADING
Rebecca Sommer traveled in August 2010 to the Upper Xingu, to investigate for the Society for Threatened Peoples International the human rights and environmental situation in the Xingu Park, Alto Xingu. Indigenous leaders complaint about being pressured by NGOs to enter into programs and projects that would ultimately become REDD projects. They say that they haven’t been informed, nor has that been explained to them, that the suggested projects would at the end allow polluters to continue to pollute (Carbon credits).
