Code Green – South Florida Sun-Sentinel
July 23, 2010This animated cartoon is based on the Code Green weekly editorial cartoons, which focus on the environmental emergency at hand. Our exploitation of natural resources is scarring the natural world, and we now we are reaching the point of no return. It’s not just about climate change, although that is catastrophic enough. More than 90 percent of old growth forests and prairies are gone. Eighty percent of rivers worldwide no longer support life. Ninety-four percent of large fish in the ocean are gone, and 120 species per day become extinct. Now the Gulf of Mexico faces ruin.If we don’t put a stop to this, this planet will soon become uninhabitable to many forms of life, including our own. “Code Green” is to bring attention to our damaging ways, and in the hope to inspire and encourage those who work to defend the natural world. For more “Code Green” cartoons, please see stephaniemcmillan.org/codegreen.
